Hampton Downs – stunning new South Auckland circuit

Hampton Downs is the new New Zealand race circuit that has got the race industry and others excited that this international circuit will soon be on stream. Actually the venue will consist of two tracks. It will be the host for a diverse range of motorsports and other activities. Even before the track has been completed bookings are coming in steadly. Eventually we will be able to offer this circuit in the SimDeck Simulator for your race experience. In the meantime get a feel of the circuit on this video.

The track is clockwise, with the start in front of the pit buildings.

Crossing the start line at 70kms in a rolling start, the car quickly accelerates to 200 km per hour before the track disappears from view as it plunges downhill into the braking area 200 metres from the crest of the hill. There is a huge sealed run-off area on the left and heavy braking is required before entering turn one at the bottom of the hill.

Through the corner at 125km per hour and onto the 750 metre back straight. The F3000 quickly accelerates to a peak of 255km per hour before braking heavily for the tight right hander at the end of the straight. Then there is a flowing sequence of a 75 km per hour left hander, then into a long 110 km per hour right hander that opens out into a 220 km per hour short straight before the circuit dives left.

The F3000 then crests a slight rise and turns left before entering a tight right hander and climbing 7 metres out of the corner and onto a 250 metre straight. This short straight rises to a crest that disguises the 6 metre descent into a wide, tightening, 60 km per hour left turning hairpin.

Blasting out of the hairpin and going downhill for 400 metres towards the sweeper, the F3000 hits 235 km per hour, then brake and balance the car through the 130 km per hour sweeper. Powering out of the sweeper the car starts up the hill for the almost 1 kilometre ‘slightly kinky’ front straight. A top speed of 265 km per hour is achieved while blasting along the plateau between the pits and apartments, before, once again the circuit drops down the hill to turn one below.

And that’s a lap of Hampton Downs!

Please keep your pets off the race track!

High speed racing and loose pets on the road is a recipe for tears and fatalities.

Pets and animals in general tend to fall into two broad social group categories, those that are cared for and those that are neglected. For those that are neglected, life can be a miserable hell hole, not unlike the life many people find themselves living. On the other side of the fence which is defintely greener, pets can have their own luxury exclusive house (aka Rachel hunter’s dogs)…literally in the lap of luxury and others give and receive the same emotional attention and attachment that is given to the cutiest of babies and children.

To raise funds for those not living in Rachel’s Hunter’s luxurious dog house, organisations such as SPCA and Miaow Association rely on a wide range of activities and channels to stay afloat and effective.

SimDeck Formula Simulators has speed onto the track with engines roaring as a part of its corporate community responsibility and hopefully will be able to raise enough funds to keep a few cats feed for quite some time and other animals safe….as long as their virtual counterparts do not wander out on the race track during a SimDeck Virtual Grand Prix. As seen on the following video clip a pet dog has no place near a race circuit.

Three lucky bidders are about to try for a new career change in the SimDeck Formula Simulator.

SPCA High Tea Charity Fundraiser
On the 1st of November, Switched On Marketing, together with sponsors ING and the Insurance People will be hosting a High Tea Charity Fundraiser Auction for the SPCA and the Lonely Miaow Association in celebration of the SPCA’s 125th Anniversary. SimDeck Formula Simulators has donated 3 SimDeck race certificates totalling 180 minutes of race time at the SimDeck Virtual Reality Race Centre in Albany. ,

The winning bids will be able to use their virtual Grand Prix winners certificate as a visit with race time with their partner, reward for their children or simply time to race with the boys.
SimDeck Founder, Kevin Andreassend mentioned, “During the auction we expect to see hands rise in lightening action, hopefully it turns into bit of cat fight as bidders seek to win one of the race certificates. For the winners we will be advising them to leave their pets at home, as it won’t be when they run across the virtual race track that they might get hurt, but rather the high decible roar of the engines and vibration of the car as it shudders in response to every track bump, gear change and any sudden serves from a virtual dog that got loose on the track!”

The event will be held at the Stamford plaza and catered for 220 seated guests business owners and professionals, the day will encompass trade tables, speakers, entertainment, give-aways and auction items.

Is it possible to be sentenced to prison if you crash in a simulator?

The answer to the above question may seem obvious. However imagine this scenario, you are are playing in one of the many car racing games and your lack of driving skill or another driver causes a fatal crash between the two cars. Wheels go flying, one car goes flying thru the air and lands on its roof, the drivers head is crushed, pulse is gone and the driver died almost instantly. His race career is over and now there is a vacancy in the race team. On replay it is obvious to see the guilty party. At stake the winner would have gone onto win a month race series. A scene examination later reveals that driver A had been drinking before racing in his home before logging on to race Driver B.

The came car around the corner at about 170 kph, the faulty brakes suddenly kicked in, the vehicle clicked the wall and suddenly became airborne

The car came around the corner at about 170 kph, the faulty brakes suddenly kicked in, the vehicle clicked the wall and suddenly became airborne

Now step out of the virtual world for a minute. Both drivers involved in the smash are actually known to each, once they had been friends but now there is real life bad blood between the two. Driver B had stolen Driver A’s girl friend months earlier. In the days before the race driver A hacked into driver B’s online car and messed around with the cars steering and brakes in the software. He knew this would cause a life threatening accident in the virtual world. He had spotted the access code on his old girl freinds cell phone.

Sound crazy, far fetched, who would do this, so what! Well the next real ife story currently before the courts (a real one where Policman hand cuff you and you have porridge only) will show you the scenarios played out in virtual worlds Like Second life or like the Matrix film can have very real life consequences.

The moral of the story. The virtual Policeman might walk out of the screen and through your front door with a set of handcuffs at the ready.

Woman jailed after killing virtual husband
8:16AM Friday Oct 24, 2008
Mari Yamaguchi

A woman who killed her virtual husband in an online game similar to Second Life has been jailed in Japan.

TOKYO – A 43-year-old player in a virtual game world became so angry about her sudden divorce from her online husband that she logged on with his password and killed his digital persona, police said.

The woman, who has been jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his ID and password to log onto the popular interactive game “Maple Story” to carry out the virtual murder in May, a police official in the northern city of Sapporo said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of department policy.

“I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry,” the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.

The woman, a piano teacher, had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.

She has not yet been formally charged. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison or a fine up to US$5,000.

Players in “Maple Story” create and manipulate digital images called “avatars” that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting monsters and other obstacles.

In virtual worlds, players often abandon their inhibitions, engaging in activity online that they would never do in the real world. For instance, sex with strangers is a common activity.

The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married to kill the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his online avatar was dead.

The woman was arrested and taken 1000km from her home in southern Miyazaki to be detained in Sapporo, where the man lives, the official said.

The police official said he did not know if she was married in the real world.

Bad online behaviour is usually handled within the rules set up by online worlds, which can ban miscreants or take away their virtual possessions.

In recent years, virtual lives have had consequences in the real world.

When bad deeds lead to criminal charges, prosecutors have found a real-world activity to cite – as in this case, in which the woman was charged with inappropriate computer access.

In August, a woman was charged in the US state of Delaware with plotting the real-life abduction of a boyfriend she met through the virtual reality website “Second Life.”

In Tokyo, a 16-year-old boy was charged with stealing the ID and password from a fellow player of an online game in order to swindle virtual currency worth US$360,000.

Virtual games are popular in Japan, and “Second Life” has drawn a fair number of Japanese participants. They rank third by nationality among users, after Americans and Brazilians.

Start of a new career and Scott’s autograph session.

Pro Sim Driver Kevin A wearing a Scott Dixon designed bandana in support of the fund raising campaign with Kids CanTeen.

Well we helped raise $100’s for the St Michael’s Roof Top Auction last night. The lucky bidder has the beginnings of a new career…so watch out Scott there is an up in coming mysterious challenger to your title 🙂

This morning we meet Scott Dixon again briefly on his way to Indy 500 in the Gold Coast. His adoring supporters were there for autographs as part of Scott’s support of Kids CanTeen, an organisation to help children with Cancer.

What must be frustrating for Scott and the CanTeen Trust is that certain NZ schools have banned all or certain coloured bandanna’s as the colours can be associated with gangs.

In a NZ TV street interview in Sth Auckland, many of the children knew that was associated with a certain scum bag gang (ed’s descriptive) It is a pity that the gangs don’t do something as worthy for kids suffering from cancer instead of their soul destroying activities of drug trade, violence, intimidation, prostitution, shootings and killings. Any low life can hide their face behind a bandanna, but with Scott championing the bandanna campaign so the kids can cover their bald heads, lets hope the meaning of a bandanna comes to mean hope, friendship and support. Make sure you support Scott’s example and head into Pak n Save or Repco to buy your colourful bandanna.

Also we have created a small poll for you to participate in. Scroll to the bottom of this posting.

Scott raced against folk in the Castrol branded gaming simulator race seat. In initial qualifying Scott set his leading score and was beaten during the morning, however like a champ in the final 3 lap race Scott came out as a winner.

Scott gratefully recieves an unexpected gift from former 1950's race car driver Vincent Martin. The book covers the history up to 1960, well before Scott was even born. The next volume is surely going to feature Scott ... many times!

Scott gratefully recieves an unexpected gift from former 1950 era race car driver Vincent Martin

During the morning Scott was presented with an out of print book detailing the Indy 500 history up to 1960.  The book was presented by one time race driver Vincent Martin who was delighted that he was able to pass on the treasured book. No doubt Scott will find a place on the book case for some bed time stories read to him by his lovely wife Emma.

1950's Kiwi speed racer Vincent Martin was delighted to be able to pass on his treasured book that covered Indy 500 history up to 1960's. Who more appropriate to recieve it than fellow compatriot and driver Scott Dixon.

From one driver to another. In passing on the historic book Vincent was handing on a token for the next champion who has created a new era in motorsports history. Vincent recalled how he once drove around the Indy 500 track and his emotional visit to the Indy 500 Museum.

1950 Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum: 4790 W. 16 St., Indianapolis (between the first and second turns at the south end of the racetrack infield); http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com or 317-492-6747. Open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (closed Christmas) with extended hours in May (open whenever the gate is open). Adults, $3; ages 6-15, $1. The 15-minute narrated tour with a shuttle bus ride around the track is an additional $3. Also available are 90-minute tours of the grounds on selected dates; adults, $24 (includes museum admission).

Kiwi’s are a most eccentric bunch going by one of the visitors who came to get Scott’s autograph. This one arrived by his plane or was it a car.

St Michael’s Church in the upmarket Auckland suburb of Remuera was hailed as a masterpiece of architectural skill 75 years ago. The church building was built in 1932 during the global depression which lead to some aspects of the structure being cut back. Ironically with the largest financial shockwave reverbarating around the world since the church was built, the church is now again timed to address some notable building issues, namely the tiled roof and strengthening the structure to meet modern earthquake standards.

Lead by parish priest, Monsignor Brian Arahill and a dedicated team, a development fund has been established to meet the required upgrade costs of $825,000. A budget blowout has meant a $135,000 short fall. The church appreciates that prayers can only go so far and some practical steps are required. To co-incide with the 75 Anniversay, an anniversay dinner and auction called the Roof Shout will be hosted at the Ellerslie Conference centre on Friday 13 October.

When I learnt of the budget shortfall a prompt email to Monsignor Brian Arahill bought a smile to the committe faces, as we offered a free auction item in the way of a 2 hour SimDeck Virtual GP Event for the winning bidder valued at $700.

No one fell off the scaffolding!

No one fell off the scaffolding!

“I felt it was a way we could support the church as earlier in the year, SimDecks parent owner, ICE AV Technology Ltd had to perform some major remedial and installation work in the santuary area using our ICE Digital Daytime Screen. It turned out to be a challenging job, first designing and then installing an automatic system 5m up the inner sanctuary wall. We had to be concerned that the weight of the system did not actually pull out one of the filled in brick walls and yet at the same time met with Historic Places Trust acceptance.

This rare view from up top provides a splendid interior view of this historic church

This rare view from up top provides a splendid interior view of this historic church

Patience and perseverance won out at the end of the day. The system had to be out of view of the congregation when not in use, fitted in with the church interior, automatic operation, no building alteration or reinforcement possible to take the 150 kg weight, and did not restrict the church service or movements. The work was supervised by well known Auckland architect and church member Ron Seeto”.

This Friday the SimDeck PET250 simulator will be setup in the Convention entrance area and as guests arrive for the gala evening function they will be able to see and hear the race car simulator in action. We hope it will inspire the guests to fully participate in the auction as they bid for the SimDeck Virtual Grand Prix.
