The Greatest Racing Spectacle in the World for 2009 is now in the history books. We silently kept our fingers crossed for our favorite driver for his magical moment, 100 years to the day when the famous Indy 500 circuit was opened. Sadly our Kiwi did not create a unique piece of world history in the largest sporting event 100 years later. Even though a tyre change problem stole Scott’s moment to secure a second Championship Race Title he was still our hero on the day with a splendid overall performance. Who could have imagined that when that first race was held, that a century later from a land as far from Indianapolis as you can go, that a young driver would not only win a Series, The Race, but that he was on the line to win the acclaimed Indy 500 for a second consecutive year…we waited with baited breath.

SimDeck Formula Simulators lets you recreate your racing spectacle in the unique one of a kind virtual and blended live world of SimDeck Virtual Reality. We create the reality in Virtual Reality.

In the beginning a group of men had a dream...today a Kiwi driver is chasing his dream 100 years later.

Kiwi racer Scott Dixon team became a Dad late July 2009, which by my recollection it will be the first Kiwi born into a Indy 500 race champion family… how cool is that! Also being a Dad I know Scott and Emma will have immense joy in the years ahead.

F1 Melbourne Circuit Open House this weekend at SimDeck in our F1 Simulator

The Formula One 2009 Season gets underway in hours and we’re celebrating with a Special F1 Open House so you can also race on the Melbourne circuit. The cars are new, the rules have changed a season of drama is about to unfold, so here is your chance to get behind the wheel of an actual real open wheeler race car and take it out onto the virtual Melbourne track.

NZ’s only current Formula One driver Brendan Hartely, will be NOT be driving in the Red Bull team after all the anticipation since his super licence never came thru in time, so we think it is only fitting that you will be driving the virtual version of his car around Melbourne. Come and experience a high speed adrenalin rush in the life size and life like virtual SimDeck world.

STOP PRESS – Breaking News TODAY, Kiwi Company brings Formula One to a new level of realism for the world to experience for the first time this weekend. Click here for details.

SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR PARENTS – Here is something fun you can do with your children THIS WEEKEND.

We are looking forward for all boy racers, mums with a burning ambition to lay some rubber, youngsters who one day dream of owning their own race car, and adults reliving some lost dreams to step up to the challenge and try a few laps on a virtual race circuit in a Formula race car. Your chance to celebrate being a Kiwi Champion on the first weekend of the 2009 Formula One season.

With speeds of over 300kph, split second timing, accurate driving lines and serious concentration we expect to see some nervous drivers taking the controls.

There is a small charge of $5 per driver which will give you at least 5 minutes or more in the car.

This experience is unique in NZ that has previously has not been readily available in NZ. The enormous 2.5m wide virtual reality screen puts you into a full life size virtual world where you feel every bump of the road and shudder of the engine as you race an actual race car.

Melbourne Formula One Track

Recent visitors have been espousing how life like the experience is which is what we are aiming to achieve and to take the realism way beyond what people can re-create at home.

This is what North Shore Mayor and now boy racer, Andrew Williams had to say.
I had the real pleasure of trying out the SimDeck Formula Race car simulator at a function I attended in May 2008 – and I’ve got to say that the whole experience was something I could imagine you could very easily get hooked on!

The sheer exhilaration of feeling like you are actually driving a high performance vehicle at speeds of up to 300kph left me as a total convert to this concept which is truly exciting and immensely challenging to those among us who are Formula One followers.

A combination of life size virtual world images, real time dash gauges, vibration sensory feedback and enough sound to recreate the on-track atmosphere resulted in a blurring of reality and virtual reality for me and made the racing seem absolutely realistic. Andrew William, North Shore City Mayor, http://www.northshorecity.govt.nz

Bunnings World Speed attempt this weekend.

Join us for a day of attempts at the lap records at Kyalami Circuit

Join us for a day of attempts at the lap records at Kyalami Circuit

The Bunnings Warehouse North Shore Community Fun Day, will be an opportunity to see Lap Time Race Demonstrations on the African Kyalami Circuit, the scene of Formula One and more recently A1GP races.

Pro Sim Driver, Kevin Andreassend will give demonstrations throughout the day, of racing on the South African Kyalami circuit and will attempt to match some of the fastest lap times set during the recent A1GP series.

Final Race fastest lap: Monaco of 1.m 27.269s.
Fastest on Final Practice Day – Lebanon’s Daniel Morad recorded 1m 30.816s
Frances Nicolas Prost ended the rookie session quickest with a time of 1m 33.149s
Kiwi’s Earl Bamber Final race fastest lap was 01m:27.569s
To maintain some level of respectability Kevin needs to at least match America’s time of 01m:35.130s
Nigel Mansells (Formula One) fastest lap set in 1993 was 1m:36.39s.

Between record attempts members of the public will be able to purchase tickets and try their hand at racing in the SimDeck race car simulator and set their own record attempt.

Actual on board cameras from drivers at the Kyalami Circuit.

The demonstrations will be an apt reminder for the public, that driving is a skill needing constant assessment, whether it is a Formula Driver or a family driver. Sadly as this bulletin is being posted tonight, five people have just been killed in the south of Auckland in wet dark conditions taking a corner to fast. Some will say it was an accident, I would say it is an error of judgment. The NZ Government places a cost of $5,000,000 for each death on our roads – a huge cost on the community. Maybe it is time the Government started to seriously consider driving simulators as part of the training and licensing regime. They are a common training tool in many areas and in some places compulsory. Given that licensing costs are about to increase for ACC, maybe its time to stop leaching motorists and improve driving skills by giving them real tools to learn. Leave your thoughts, I’d be interested to hear them and for further indepth thoughts I have blogged here about the role of professional simulators in teaching drivers to drive their family car.

There will be a wide range of stalls, garage sale, attractions, BBQ and bargains galore. We are expecting an eager crowd of budding drivers keen to impress and who knows plan for a career to follow in the steps of NZ’s motorsports champions.

It will be a great fun day full of high speed crashes, Dad’s with bruised egos and students who live in a digital world wanting to challenge their teachers on an international Formula One GP life like race track.

SimDeck Formula Simulators has a launched a fund raising partnership pogramme for Auckland schools to both create awareness of the SimDeck experience and at the same time raise funds to supplement the schools budget and special projects. By combining the world’s largest spectator sport, Formula One racing in a virtual reality world using actual race cars, has got to be the fastest school fund raiser ever to appear down the road.

School Fairs have become a standard feature of school life to raise badly needed funds each year to supplement their Government Grants. Read about the difficulties most schools face in this alarming story published in the NZ Herald newspaper.
